Re: Monson's Servo Auto Scanner

Truly awesome. A couple of questions. First, have you thought about a way for it to autodetect the end of the book so that you could start it and then leave it unattended and it would shut off on its own? Second, is it currently adjustable to books of different sizes? For example, would it work now ...

Re: A DIY Book Scanner In Every Hackerspace /DIY Kit

Rob: In terms of camera height adjustment I was just thinking in terms of a 12"x9" book versus a 6"x4" book. For the smaller book, wouldn't it be advantageous to be be able to lower the height of the camera so that you could zoom in more capturing the text at a higher resolution?...

Daniel:

Could you comment on the potential for camera adjustment in this design. For example, it appears that camera height isn't adjustable.

Re: Monson's Servo Auto Scanner

Very impressive. I wonder how the servo's connected to the v-shaped page hold-downs know when to stop when pressing down? If they just kept pressing down wouldn't the servo burn out after a while?

Re: Canon a590IS ?

"IS" means image stabilization. So the a590IS presumably compensates for camera shake when shooting at "low shutter speeds". For fixed camera positioning, as in book scanning, I doubt that the "IS" would be all that useful particularly if you shoot with a lot of light.

Re: Can you check if this site works, please?

I just get a blank white page. I'm using Firefox under Windows 7 64-bit.

Re: Need help with light

How did you come up with 24vdc? A Cree Q5 at 1000ma has a forward voltage of 3.7 volts. So 4 Q5's would require 14.8 volts, plus 2 volts for the buckpuck, would equal 16.8 volts. So wouldn't an 18vdc source be plenty?
