Platen and light

Postby anvit2a » 12 Jun 2011, 09:58

Now got cameras to work with CHDK so now it will soon be time to build my book scanner..

My biggest consern atm. is about the platen, light and reflections...
I wanna build a scanner that will give me really good results and offcourse as cheap as possible... It might be a "budget" scanner in the end :) ...

i have looked for alot at all the topic on the forum and got ideas from a few of them to build my own. i was thinking making a platen like this one:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=940&start=10#p10064

it will hold the two cameras too and they will be adjustable to try and center on the page that will be scanned.
I think the advantage of this platen might be the reflektions on the glass of the platen when it is all in the "box" and painted black.
What do you guys think about that?

also in this build i think the light is led and was thinking on using that too ... how to avoid reflections from these in the glass? let them point upwards ?

And finally... what kind of glass should i use ? i have looked at normal glass and plexiglass (dunno what it is called elsewhere in the world.) which was anti reflektions.. that costs alot and not only that it cost the same to get it shipped it seems.
what can you guys recommend for me? should i really go for anti relfektion plexiglass or normal glass or plexiglass?

I need you guys help with this one before i start building anything :)
