So far I did this digital 3D model and I share it here for further variations and comments.
- put nylon webbing to hold the glasses and didn't put the holder, as it can be adjusted in many ways.
- added some tabs on top of the lights to put the "paperback mode" sitting on the arm.
- put screws and nuts to keep the platen attached to the base.
- put screws and nuts to keep the lights attached to the platen.
- put holes of 1/4" on the base to lock the arm in the middle of the course when it is receiving the lights in "paperback mode". THe lock can be done by dowel or other suggestion.
- some blank pages appear on the PDFs as my database has a lack of some figures to be completed.

Is there anyone in the Calgary or Western Canada area that would be interested in collaborating on building a couple of these? I figure it will be cheaper to fab and buy parts in bulk.

I was just thinking about the bicycle brake camera trigger problem. Perhaps if you rotated the brake handle 90 degrees so that it's vertical instead of horizontal? Possibly that way it wouldn't rub against anything. Just a thought.

Based on the work of Daniel I've documented this model in 3D using Sketchup 7. I know the earlier version is 8, but for this work is perfect to work in both versions.
I signed the files with the same Creative Commons from the first files of this post and upgraded the version as "DIY Book Scanner 0.9.2"
I am now ready to build my sample that I'll post pictures here, as soon as it is in process.
As you can see I didn't documented the trigger yet. If someone wants to share or modify this files, I would enjoy it.

For this build since it is built around a mechanical trigger and the bookis raised up instead of it being further from the cameras do the cameras that are used require any zooming?

Are there improvements in dbmoura's scanner that haven't been included in Gary's drawings? It would be nice to consolidate the plans to the extent that is possible. I am planning to have a few made up at once.

Has anyone got dbmoura's scanner in a .dxf file? This scanner has just appeared on my actual to do list and I'm going to call in some favors...

It can definitely be converted over from SKP.

I agree that we should consolidate some/all the changes GaryK has made into the model. Does anyone have good sketchup skills besides dbmoura?

I'm going to Richmond tomorrow to get my possessions - and my CNC. Arriving back in LA on Monday, and hope to cut a copy of GaryK's revisions as soon as I get the machine up and running, which could take as long as two weeks. Can't wait to see how much better it really is.
