jck57's HackerScanner Build

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Put together the kit I got from Daniel Reetz. Changed a few things because I like to and also because I didn't have all the recommended hardware on hand. Now that I've operated this thing I see what all the fuss is about. It's so smooth and easy and the cameras fire with just the slightest pressure from the brake lever. The whole design concept is frickin awesome.

OK wowie zowie. First off, your new cradle loaded in that thing... SWEET. I MUST copy that. So jealous!

Second, this new camera trigger idea... DOUBLE sweet. If we can nail this down to a couple "sanctioned" cameras, we could produce a set of those triggers for each one. Simpler and cheaper than the current design. Brilliant.

How did your bungie cord work out? If you can find a way to make it work, I'd love to take you up on your sample offer.

Or maybe the user trims the arm's length to fit her camera. The peel and stick rubber bumper could then be placed to line up with about any shutter button.

Yeah, it works well. I'm using the thicker cord un-doubled on my auto scanner cradle. I'll send you some.

Ripping off an idea by 600dpi http://www.diybookscanner.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2497&p=13312&hilit=pump#p13312, I employed a Dollar Store football pump as an air dashpot to dampen the descent of the cradle.

Hello jck57 how are you holding the trigger to the side piece? I thought I saw a pair of hole in one of the side photos, but doesn't this forces the pieces, could they crack the plywood? I know this thread is from may but I'm currently building my scanner, so hopefully you're around.

Cheers

Hi George. Yes, I simply screwed the trigger pressers into the side plywood with two screws. There are only a few degrees of movement in operation and I left the screws slightly loose so there is no stress on the wood.

Thank you Jck57, I will try it this weekend, I'm so close to finish this baby  It's been a long ride, I think this is the best and simplest trigger of all I've seen.
