Find Your Ideal Camera Settings

I don't know much about photography; however, I do want to find the best camera settings for my scanner.

Therefore, I wrote a script that goes through different camera settings and captures images accordingly. I then compare the resulting images to find what's best for me (White Balance: Tungsten, Shutter Speed: 1/80, Aperture: F/5.6, ISO: 80)

is it the intention here that you find the best setting and then return to the normal canon menu and reset the manual settings?

Hi,

I saw this post as a great way to find my Canon A590 IS ideal camera setting for CHDK. However, after following the instructional, I notice some issues when running the script:

The camera lcd shows what might be the first in a series of photos it proceeds to capture, however, instead of taking a bunch of photos, the camera makes a focus noise, then the screen goes black and the camera goes quiet.

Should I wait, as the script runs silent until the beeping? How long does it take to run this script?

Another issue I noticed was that the script required me to press the remote button, however, I'm running CHDK, not SDM.

Is the correct script on the server loaded for CHDK?

Having said that, I've come up with an even better, faster and custom method to find your camera's ideal settings for each book you scan--without requiring you to go-out and buy exposure meters, gizmos, etc. (you do need an iphone, though). Follow my post here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=496

Script works as advertised for me, but I'm using an old version of SDM (too lazy to change mine). What version are you running?

I've been attempting to use the script on CHDK; hence my problem?

Once I find an installer of SDM for Mac, I'll run the script again.

Getting 'stack full' so I don't think this works anymore. (Using CHDK, A590IS)
