Lighting: best option for standard build?

Has anyone used these lights?

They seem like a good off-the-shelf option. The barn-door and gel carriers on the front might get in the way but they could be removed?

Is the consensus that 250w halogen work lights from big box stores are too hot, dangerous, and flakey?

Thanks and look forward to this community's input.

In my experience the shop-type halogens with exposed bulbs are not the best choice. The tiny filament makes for fairly "structured" (not diffuse) lighting on the page surface. If you're going to go with halogens I recommend the kind that go in outdoor motion-activated lights, which have the small diffusing lenses on the outside surface. Thanks for the input, Daniel. After reading your response to http://www.diybookscanner.org/forum/vie ... f=1&t=1291 ,

I think I will give that LED fixture a go. Looks like a decent quality fixture at a reasonable price.
