Let's call it a day. Fantastic work and THANK YOU scann! You really made this possible.

If anyone can tell me how to hide the "old forum" without ruining all the shadow links, that would be great.

You can make it a private section.

Thanks to you Dan, for all the work you put to this and the diy book scanning project.

Sorry guys, I'm a bit late to the party ;) The new layout looks marvelous!

It seems like basically everything is done, except for the Software category. Do you plan on doing anything with it?

we don't like the way it's organised. any suggestions? there are a lot of threads about deskew/dewarping/margins/output formats, but none of this is enough to make a subforum for each of them. Daniel has posted a list of steps of book scanning, maybe it can help you thinking!

Only thing that I can see is that the Help section will grow really quickly, as most of the posts in Software are either for help or a discussion about a certain problem.

I'll migrate the topics that obviously belong in some section and leave the rest intact.

I've noticed that there exist many posts in Software that could be categorized as R&D more than New Software. Anybody for/against creating a category for this in Software?

I wouldn't worry about narrowing software by operating system or output format... most of the applications are cross-platform and some will work with different formats (hopefully more in the future!), so organizing by those lines will be impossible.

Any thought of having subforums?

  • General
  • Tutorials
  • Image enhancement
  • OCR
  • Binding
  • Application specific
    • Scan Tailor
    • Book Scan WIzard
    • LiveCD

I wouldn't put the LiveCD project in "application specific", BSW and ST are programs and the LiveCD project is an operating system.
but I agree with everything else.

I like that approach, especially "binding" because it encompasses all possible output formats. I don't know if I can do sub-subforums, will have to tinker a bit.

Basically, I'd like to keep all R&D fairly consolidated, so if something leans more toward R&D we should put it there. As DIY Book Scanner goes on, the hardware and software will be more and more intertwined... after a program or script comes out of R&D it can be put into "software"
