Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Hello Everyone,
I finally put together an idea for a book scanner and I am going to start working on it in the next week or so. I just bought two Canon PowerShot A2200's for a great price. If you will go to a Walmart and talk them into selling you the floor model with the box, cables, charger, battery, AC adapter, and everything else in other words a complete setup you can get it for $56.35 out the door. I am going this morning to a close Walmart and see if I can talk them out of their floor model so I have a backup. I see Daniel and others post about updating the bios in the camera and a USB remote. Can someone please elaborate on these items for me? Thanks and look forward to hearing back from some of you. I guess I am going to try to make a cross between the Book Liberator, Ion book saver, and another portable model I have seen. The only difference is I will not promise something I can't deliver. So if a couple of you want to pitch in we can make this happen. I don't want something big and bulky I am shooting for something portable and I have a really good ideal on the table so let's turn it in to a reality. I also am shooting in making out of material that is readily available and you don't have to pay $60.00, $70.00, or more to get it cut. The average person doesn't have the tools or the skills to do such tasks. I want this where anyone can build it with minimal problems.

Nishkish wrote:Hi! I live in houston, Tx. I had been waiting on the ion booksaver for about a year until i learned it will no longer be made. I really need a book scanner, and am a bit intimidated to construct my own. Im willing to pay about $500. Can you please let me know to what extent i can get this made. Even if the structure and all the wires are constructed im willing to add my own cameras....will just need proper instructions of how to make it work with the right program? PLEASE HELP!!

Hello Nishkish,

Yes Ion was very disappointing to many of us. I even paid for the machine only to get my money refunded because they couldn't deliver a product after getting a lot of people's hopes up. I live about 60 miles from you and I am starting on a book scanner in the next week or so. I am probably going to Home Depot tomorrow to shop for products. I have a good solid ideal for what I think may work great. No promises though and you don't have to pay up front and wait 6 months to hear a line of excuses why it won't be ready. I am going to work on this and complete it. If you want to put in some input I would welcome it and I will try to get it going pretty quick. I can tell you this I have this weekend purchased two Canon PowerShot A2200's for right at $60.00 each. Not a bad deal. If you go to a Walmart and see one on display it is $79.99 and they with give you thirty percent off so you will only pay $56.34 or real close. Make sure to get box and all cables and accessories to include paperwork. Now see I have already helped you and several others I hope. Well look forward to hearing back real soon.
