Adventure in assembly a Book Scanner Kit v0.9.10

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Hi,
First thanks to Rob for the clarification on the differents type of washers. In hardware store over here the package don't say if it is SAE washers or USS washers. The wholsalers over here probably buy those in bulk and do re-packaging in 10, 25, 50, 100 units per box without any obligation of saying if it is SAE or USS standard...

I'm still working on the test assembly of my kit, cut by a local custom CNC owner.... I know, I know, I'm slow, but reading all the infos on this board, working on a project of stripping 20,000 square feet of paint applied in the '70 over a master piece of "Fresco Secco" painting of the 19 century in a church done by one of our master painter(Meloche) and working full time reproducing bird eyes maple faux finish on 13" base board, doors casing, doors and and casement windows of a 19 century Manor 30' x 80 ' take most of my time....

Tonight was my first night off this week.

Since I found out McMaster will not ship in Canada the nice L-Bracket Rob choose for the assembly.... I start sourcing for some.... in vain, none of the suppliers I could think of, have any....I can see "German Thistle" rolling into their eyes when ask for those L-Brackets .

I know I have some L-Brackets somewhere in my shop.... but where ???????

Opening all the drawers in my shop tonight, I finally found it, they are differents from the one Rob find, but they will work, here's a pic of those L-Bracket:

Image

At first I could not remember where I get it from...... But after a while (one beer).....

Here's where I get it from:

Home Depot ???

In fact not realy... I get it from a job where all the electrical box have to be surface wall box.... The electrician leave those L-brackets in the garbage box.... I could not see any metal or Alum in garbage box it drive me crazy so I bring it home...

Here's a link to home depot electrical box:

http://www.homedepot.ca/product/gangable-steel-device-boxes-with-ac90-cable-clamps-150-2-1-2-inches/977513

Home Depot US or Lowes probably have those box too....

If you have access to McMaster, the L- Bracket Rob find are cheaper than those box... but for us in Canada at least we can have our L-Bracket and electrical box for future project at the home depot.....

See You

Hi,

You should also send pictures of this restoration work, it sounds totally fascinating!

Hummm, for the church it's a work in progress, our small group Heritage Stanbridgeois was invited by a young man (24 or 25 year old) in charge of the choral at the church to take a look at what he find. Near the organ one night when he was waiting for the other members of the choral, he saw that the paint was peeling off the wall next to him... You know how kid are with pimple.... Today they have a pimple tomorrow you will be able to play with your kid truck in the crater they made playing with that pimple...

Without tailling anybody he start peeling the paint and discover the Fresco Secco under was intact... the overpaint is a cheap water base paint thin like a sheet of paper.
The challenge, the paint to be removed cover +/- 20,000 square feet, some of those Fresco have been paint on the ceilling and are +/- 50' above the ground. The reward, the last master piece done by Meloche (1893) he died in 1914 homeless after painting more then 40 churchs accross Canada and being a teacher of is art.

We are working on the funding of this project +/- 500,000$ the community (700 peoples) will not be able to pay for this project...We have to turn ourself to governement grant.... read, long process... to bad a master piece is buried under a cheap pastel paint.... Knowledge and avaibility of out of print books and old papers is the key to avoid this kind of situation... In 1973 if the dicision maker of the time know they own a master piece do you think they will accepted to let it cover with a pastel paint to the name of modernist ??????

Ok!!! if you still reading my Franco-English up to here, you realy have nothing to do or you hope that I will come up with something about book scanning.

Sure I will, otherwise Daniel or Rob have to delete my post, because it's of topic.

First I still work on my book scanner, I done all the correction that have to be done from the custom CNC cutting, this have nothing to do with the plan available here. The plan is perfect,it is just how people from the north read the plan or if you like it better the.dxf file.

I'm at the stage of painting right now. Since I have no experience in painting plywood I do some test, so far lacquer spray paint seem to do the best result with
stuff with glue in it like plywood otherwise you need a coat of good primer to achieve an even paint.

Just in case you're not following the thread from OG200, this guy do a wonderfull work to bring us the capture software call ScanManager. This app. is the next big thing in the world of DIY scanning.
