How much vertical clearance is there between the bottom of the cradle base and the table top when the carriage is all the way down?

Thanks, Chief. Tried some new bits on the first prototype. Replaced springs with 3/16" bungee cords secured with cord locks. Gap adjustment is by nylon cord and another cord lock. Seems to work fine. Is this type of adjustment OK or do we really need screw knobs? This way is cheaper and lighter but maybe not as easy to adjust at least until you get used to it.
