Just published my first book!

Postby daniel_reetz » 27 May 2010, 11:28

Yes, I know better than anyone how LOL-worthy that is.

In 2005, I wrote an album and released it online for free. Meg Hollewrote an ebook to go along with it -- and it took us (mostly me) about three years to forge it into something release-able. Since then, it has been downloaded over 20,000 times, not counting the streaming downloads. Last year, Black Pants Theater decided to put it on stage -- and Meg and I have been working on that ever since. The play launches this week.

The re-written book, now vastly improved and with dozens more illustrations, is going to be a part of the play. We bought a block of ISBNs to start a press, "The Author Is Dead". At some point we'll release a PDF of the new version of the book, but for now it's a real, physical book. Never, ever would have thought I'd produce one.

Don't you know that print is dead, Dan?

In all seriousness, very cool! It'll be a big thrill to have it performed too. It's really a great accomplishment, so congratulations. The book's a part of the play? How is that organized?

Interesting timing - the play my brother wrote is just about to be performed in a few weeks, too.
The opinions expressed in this post are my own and do not necessarily represent those of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Ha, yes! Print is dead, and so is the author. Yeah, so the original book inspired Black Pants theater, and they have been helping Meg convert it to a script for over a year now. The play is in the form of two representatives of the Corporation and one Hal9000-like Powerpoint character who deliver a seminar on how to live your life. Black Pants theater handles all that. I got to see a test performance in Vancouver a few weeks ago and it was magickal. It starts in Vancouver tonight! I'm going to see it on closing night, June 5th.

You need to link your brother's play here when it happens. ;)
