Taking a new job.

Whatever.

Taking a new job.

Postby daniel_reetz » 17 Apr 2010, 12:10

Well, I dropped out of the program at NDSU, and I'm taking a job with Disney Research in Glendale, CA. Starts in the middle of May.

This is good, because I'll make some money and be directly involved with producing some interesting new technologies.

This is not so good, because I need to pack up my workshop and tools and put them away for a year or so. I can bring some stuff, but not very much. The going is going to be slow for me for a while.

All the best with that Dan, I wondered what your decision would be :-)

Moving's a PITA but you sure do discover things you'd forgotten you had, both during the packup and after the move itself (usually many months when those last few boxes are cleared out!).

Cheers, P.

Some ancient Greek or Roman once said, "Two moves is the same as one fire," to point up the fact that moving is indeed a pain and is likely to result in losing (or just losing track of) some stuff you care about. Best of luck with Disney. I hope your new geolocation and duties will allow you to dispatch any/all family obligations. You'll be in my prayers in re this last bit.

Congrats again, Dan! This sounds like it'll really be a good change for you, and I definitely think you'll enjoy it more than you were the NDSU program.

I don't envy you the big move though. My move from Toronto to small-town Paris was enough work last year, much less going from Fargo to California like you. The warmth will be a pretty nice difference I bet.

Its really terrible how many times I have had to move over the years. School, new job, new apartment, breakup, new state, new job, new apartment, rinse and repeat ....

And really ... I see this happening more and more to more people... This bookscanner idea goes way deeper than *just* a book scanner. I have something like a thousand textbooks. I've moved them so many times. Its ridiculous.

I really look forward to the day I have either thrown out, or sold all that weight. Shipping companies do not ship for free, ya know.

Dan ... Well, anywayz goods lucks in your new job, new state... !!!! :)
