Not exactly a build yet, but a start on one.

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

I haven't updated my progress for a while, but I have made some. I'm essentially finished with the platen now. I operate it by dangling it from a lever arm:

Camera supports and getting it all wired up are the only two remaining bits.

I'm pretty excited about this innovative platen lift. You keep great build logs so now for me, it's just a waiting game to see how well it works...

Almost done. Camera mounts are in place, I just need to figure out how to hook up all the wires and where to pack all the electronics. Here's the mostly finished product:

And here's what most of the wiring looks like crammed into a blue plastic electrical box:

I was relieved to find everything still working after all the man handling to get it fitted in the box :-).

Well, I have achieved the milestone of getting finished with the scanner construction, but now I have the minor detail of figuring out how to get the scanner near enough to the computer to plug in the USB hub all the controls go through. Here's what the rats nest of wires looks like in the finished unit:

I forgot I actually already had the ideal almost cart laying around. Adding some casters I had on hand made it a real cart, and now I have a finished product I was able to wheel next to the computer and test:

For some reason it reminds me of the character "Bucky" in the Brewster Rockit comic strip :-).

Dig the use of the multi-gang plastic box. Filing that idea for future use.

Plastic was essential: I had to cut all kinds of holes in it (but it is moderately soft and drills and files pretty easily).
