I had that exact scanner for a few days while I was building my first bookscanner. It didn't work well:
- Like a flatbed scanner there is an edge all the way around the optic window and the scanner couldn't get into the inside gutters of the books... especially paperbacks.
- You have to roll the scanner along the page in a constant motion, at a constant speed, and maintain that motion in a completely even manner. It's hard to do without a fram or guide, and the text inevitably came out with a huge amount of warping.
It's just not very good for archive quality media conversion. I bought one of these almost 8 years back. It works much better, but it's still not great:
