Libreflip - a new open source page-turning bookscanner

Built a scanner? Started to build a scanner? Record your progress here. Doesn't need to be a whole scanner - triggers and other parts are fine. Commercial scanners are fine too.

Are the scanner's cameras capable of capturing images at this point?

If so, after having mounted the light, do you see a reflection of the light source in the camera's view? Looking at the dimensions and angles of the platen and camera configuration shown in your first video, it looks like the cameras will always see a reflection of the light source with the current design.

You should also note that if the angle between the two platens is only 90 degrees, you'll see a reflection of the adjacent platen (page) in the captured image. The angle between the platens should be closer to 100 degrees to prevent this and to be able to position the light closer to the platen 'v'.

Yes and no. In Episode 24, they worked already, but more software development introduced a Bug, which is why currently they dont work. The Bug will be fixed, but the lovely Programmer is currently rather busy and does not have much free time to invest in Libreflip. I am very thankful for the volunteer-programmers helping me with this project, so I am in no position to complain about the delay. At some point they will work again. Hopefully soon.

Thank you for these thoughts. I hope I don't have to redesign the suction box (and the Book holder), but if I have to, and your thoughts sound a bit like that, then I will. Certainly I need more testing, before I will make that decision. Unfortunately, a 100° angle at that location will make the suction box considerably more difficult to be build by others, so I have to think about how I can reduce that complexity.

I released two new Episodes:

E31 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNOPI8aZbpM
"building Libreflip - E31 - Exchanging the Stepper Driver and discussing "COTS" vs "Custom PCB"

In this Episode we discuss in great length the design decision for Consumer-off-the-shelf components "COTS" and against a "custom PCB", because we are not too sure anymore wether this decision was the right one! Please do pitch in to the discussion and share your opinion either here or over in the coimments.

and in

E32 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ebi4wvrnyY
building Libreflip - E32 - The new Stepper Driver works and I am taking apart the old scanner.

We get the new stepper driver working and then I am talking about the predecessor Libreflip and disassemble the machine.

Thanks, dpc for this input.
I've been worrying a great amount about your post. In the most recent Episode, E35, I explore this possibility, of having used the wrong geometry and find out if I actually have to rebuild the suction box.

Here is the freshly released Episode 35! Have fun watching, and if you haven't yet, please consider to subscribe to my channel.
