Infrared LEDs for lighting

Infrared LEDs for lighting
Taking into account that IR leds are cheap, I was wondering if infrared light could increase definition or sharpness in the images capturated by cameras (together with the normal light). Someone has tryed something related with this?

Re: Infrared LEDs for lighting
in "better" (or all) cameras there is a IR blocking filter in front of the sensor.
The camera is constructed to make a image of what we see and therefor the manufakture of the camera has block the IR.
I have not try to see what resolution I can get with IR light and I don´t think I will do that.
I do not have a IR light right now.

UV light is no good for this

Additional, IR LED would be unsuitable for taking pictures of anything with 'colors'.
