How to make pdf copies out of printed books

Post by Bijaydeyp »

Hi
I am an amature in bookscanning. I have never done it before. I need some guide in this respect.
I have read this manual https://archive.flossmanuals.net/e-book ... ction.html but I am using Android phone instead of digital camera & IrfanView program instead of GIMP.
The programs I am using are Built-in camera app, IrfanView, Scan tailor, ABBYY reader, Adobe acrobat reader.

Some common problems I'm encountering are...
  • Maintaining good photo(jpeg) quality with cropping, white balance, etc.
  • Flattening the curled borders with proper alignment, de-skewing etc.
  • Some photos contain stamps, pen markings, dark spots, metadata to be removed.
How should I progress(step-by-step) to make pdf copies out of printed books ? Do I need any special camera app ?

Welcome to the forum Bijaydeyp: I am afraid that the forum has been rather quiet recently, but your post has now been viewed close to one hundred times.

I think it is generally best to raise separate issues as separate threads, otherwise when people respond a thread can become correspondingly harder to follow. It is also often useful to include example images to illustrate the problem described in the first post when appropriate. The forum attachment limits are quite generous compared with those for some other forums.

You might therefore try to prioritise the information that you are seeking so that when you post example images for a new issue they benefit from resolution of any earlier issues that have already been resolved. For example, example images illustrating the "stamps, pen markings, dark spots, metadata that need to be removed" would be better images that are already as far as possible optimised, as that could significantly affect the methods that could be used and the results that can be obtained.
