Each time I start the laptop that I'm using for Spreads, I need to locate and kill the GPhoto process or Spreads cannot communicate with the cameras.
ps aux | grep gphoto
kill <ProcessID of GPhoto>
Is anyone aware of any issues with removing GPhoto completely?

Did you look at this post

and please give some information so that others can help you:
1. which version do you use of Spreads ?
2. did you have this problem beforehand ? or just recently after an update ?
3. have you installed all the dependencies ?

Re: GPhoto2 question
It seems like there are some issues with the new direction that gphoto2 is taking. They are trying to integrate with chdk now and it seems that the way Spreads uses chdk doesn't play nicely.
The good news is that AFAIK, Johannes is working on a gphoto2 plugin for Spreads. When he gets that working, we may be able to switch entirely away from the CHDK plugin and this problem will go away entirely.
