what screens have an RCA video input

Everything camera related. Includes triggers, batteries, power supplies, flatbeds and sheet-feeding scanners, too.

what screens have an RCA video input

Post by kylefoley2000 »

I don't think I want to use a cheap tv to view the camera display in, too bulky. I saw one guy use a LCD screen from an old computer but i'm not sure they have the RCA video inputs.

Does anyone know how I find a screen/monitor on Ebay that has the RCA inputs? what brands make them?

Kyle, it can sometimes be tough to find good sources of composite-input (RCA-input) monitors. I have gotten them from many sources. Let me try to broaden your search space a little.

One good source are broken portable DVD players. You can often find these at pawn shops or on clearance (and they don't have to be broken). I got two 9" composite input LCDs this way -- and it was neat because they were identical, each designed to hang on the back of one seat in a minivan. Sometimes these are called "headrest monitors". Craigslist is not a bad source. Sometimes there are great deals listed on slickdeals or dealnews.

Following that, car audio-video places often have things. Sometimes they are sold for/as backup cameras.

Another source is direct-from-Asia retailers like Dealextreme. Unfortunately they're a little expensive, but cheap relative to US sources.

Another source are old computer LCDs. I don't know the specific models, but there were many that had a composite input. There were a few Dells like that.

The weird truth is that LCDs with a composite video input are all over the place, integrated in all kinds of things, but the composite interface is not always exposed, which makes for some weird scrounging/finding. I'll keep thinking about this as there are definitely other sources. My personal feeling is that the dual-screen car AV stuff will be the best thing for your purposes.

Great, thanks for your help. I'm actually going to try it without screens first and see if that works.

Do you think this would work?

It will definitely work, but I think you're better off trying without screens first. Most people find that they don't need them.
